Be a Mentor

In developing the leadership skills of young women today, one of the most critical factors is the influence of other people, especially role models. In today’s media saturated environment, the influences on young women are innumerable and often contradictory. Now, more then ever, girls need images of strong successful women in order for them to construct positive female identities. As part of the Girls Incorporated mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, we have instituted a mentoring program.

Crown Monarch, Incorporated

How the Auxiliary was founded:

On a visit to the Girls Club of Sarasota in February 1983, a former executive director of Girls Club of Oak Ridge learned about Coquille, the highly successful auxiliary of the Sarasota club.  After this meeting, a steering committee was formed and discussion culminated in the creation of this auxiliary.  After five years of hard work, Crown Monarch was formed.  The principal purpose of this nonprofit is to render service to Girls Incorporated of Oak Ridge.  During the past 20 years, Monarch has contributed over $166,500 to this organization.

In order to join, a member must ask a prospective member to a recruitment tea.  This invitation only tea serves as an information gathering opportunity.  If the potential candidates decide to enroll, they choose between the following membership classes:

Membership Classes: Service Membership:  $50
                                   Sustaining Membership:  $100
                                   Benefactor Membership: $200
Honorary Membership:  unusual/and or outstanding service to Girls Inc. or Crown Monarch, Inc. as determined by a 2/3 majority vote by the board of directors.  This member has no voting  privileges.

Crown Monarch members conduct two yearly fundraisers:  (1) an autumn balsam wreath sale; and (2) a fashion show and luncheon.  In addition to this, they volunteer at Girls Inc. as tutors, book club readers, and Wednesday office assistants.  They also help run a concession stand for the Girls Inc.  sports program.  Girls Inc. members enjoy holiday parties that Crown Monarch members provide. These include a Halloween-themed party, a Christmas party, and a Spring-fling party.
