Center Based Programs

Girls Incorporated of Oak Ridge offers Center-based Programs that provide structured learning and fun experiences for the children of working parents and single working parents.  These programs reaches all races and socio-economic levels. 

MEMBERSHIP:  Our center based programs are offered to girls between the ages of 5 and 14 and/or in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade.  Girls must be member of Girls Incorporated of Oak Ridge in order to attend these programs.

FEES:  $40.00/week --  but scholarships are available.

After-School Program

¬     Girls Incorporated of Oak Ridge provides van transportation for girls from area schools.

¬     The Oak Ridge school system provides transportation from Linden Elementary School.

¬     Our programs are offered Monday through Friday and last until 6 p.m.

¬     Our National Resource Center trains our teachers to present the programs in an informal setting.

¬     Our fee is $40.00 per week.

¬     Scholarships are available.  A review is done to assess an applicant’s needs.

¬     The program is offered to kindergarteners through middle school-aged children.

¬     Registration starts August 1st.

¬     We operate on the same schedule as the Oak Ridge City School’s system.

 

 


  

     Summer Camp









     Ten weeks of summer excitement begins as school lets out.

    

     Age requirements:  Rising first graders through rising 8th graders.



     Field trips include skating, sports, hiking and swimming, as well as other fun and entertaining places to visit.


     Arts and crafts that are useful and create an opportunity for life-long enjoyment!

 

 







 

In-School Programs







¬     Willow Brook Intersession

¬     We offer informal educational programs in September and March.

 

We incorporate the National Identity Programs and the Girls Incorporated® Program Matrix into all of Center-based and Outreach Programs.

Girls Incorporated® of Oak Ridge Programs:

Girls Inc. Operation Smart®:  A program designed to provide hands-on experience with math, science and technology.  It builds girls' skills with activities that give girls the opportunity to explore, ask questions, and solve problems through projects, games and examples.

Girls Inc. Economic Literacy®:  She’s on the Money®:  a program that provides girls with the skills and self-confidence they need to contribute to the economy.  Girls learn how to budget, save, and take informed financial risks.  It also provides a forum for discussion about equal pay for equal work, child-care, welfare and other issues that particularly affect women and girls.

Girls Inc. Sporting Chance®:  BridgesSM and SteppingstonesSM builds movement and athletic skills, cooperative and competitive spirit, health awareness, and interest in all sports as girls explore career opportunities related to sports and experience the benefits of healthy risk taking.

Girls Make HERstory:  This program for girls ages 12 to 14, guides them in an exploration of their family and cultural heritage.  Girls Make HERstory is designed for 12 girls to meet once or twice a week for 13 sessions that last 90 minutes for a total of 19.5 hours.  Activities include writing, field trips, conducting interviews, taking photographs, and gathering artifacts to document their past and present.

GIRLStart : An Afterschool Program for Girls Ages6-8 This program offers educational and enrichment components delivered at a partnering elementary school. The program focuses on increasing literacy skills, confidence and self-esteem, interest in learning, and overall school success while strengthening relationships between girls, their families, and support networks. Developed by Girls Inc. of Alameda County , CA.

LEAP (Life Empowerment Action Plan): A mentoring and journaling program for girls Ages 6-18.  Girls engage in developmentally appropriate personal assessment, health promotion, academic review, career and educational planning, and celebration of their successes.
